Xian, China

Near Xian is the legendary Terra Cotta soldiers. What most people don't know is the tomb of the man who commissioned the soliders is still unexcavated- and completely toxic. According to old chinese legend, people thought that mercury was the Elixer of Eternal life- once you drank it your soul would leave your body and become immortal. And so, The Qing Dynasty's most powerful man buried himself in a lake of it.

The soil around the tomb has suggested that the legend is true- it's high in mercury radiation, but as of yet no country has the tools to properly excavate it, so the tomb remains untouched.
