Coca-Cola was invented in Atlanta in 1886 by a pharmacist named John S. Pemberton, who made the syrup that could be used at soda fountains. He took it to his local pharmacy, and it was complimented by people who sampled it. During the first year in the soda fountains in Atlanta, sales of coke averaged at 9 servings a day, and two years later he sold the buisness to a Georgia man named Asa G. Chandler.
